Torrent files with 900 episodes? WTF?   11>|

(Note: ..Umm.. The threads title is an exaggeration.. in case you didn't know..)

There's something that's been bothering me lately.

So, okay, let's I'm searching for a torrent of anime (we'll presume it's unlicensed).

Why is it that you keep finding torrents that download the entire series at once?

I mean, I don't have like some crap computer that only goes up to like one gig, but why would you ever do something that like that?

In the time it takes to download all those episodes, you could've started watching one.
It's ridiculous and a waste of system resources.

Discuss.

that's how I used to watch anime. download an entire series watch it then delete it. if it was good maybe keep it to show my friends. but like getting an entire series is the shit. if you wanna watch like a few episodes just stream them online.

But they're not always available online.
That's the problem..

And, yes, I do typically watch more than a few episodes, but I don't download them all at once.
Also, if it's your first time watching it, there's no guarantee that you'll be watching them all and deleting all of those files seems like it could prove to be a hassle..

And seriously, I'm downloading episode 1-26 of.. an anime I won't mention... I have lots of peers but the ETA is about 20 hours.
Now, I know that's typical of torrents, but this one really is downloading at that rate and it's actually the most popular and well-seeded torrent I've seen in about a year, yet at this very moment, if I could simply find each episode somewhere listed as separate torrents and they were as well seeded as this one, I'd already be watching it and could probably even download the next episode in the meantime.

In my experience, if I make a decision to watch a series and make it a priority, Downloading an entire series at once makes sense.

I'll set the first two episodes to high priority, the next two to normal, and each later to low, and I find that I'll watch the show at the same, or a faster speed than it downloads.

It's been a full night ('bout twelve hours now I believe) since I posted that and I haven't watched a single episode yet.
It's at about 51% right now..

It normally doesn't take me too long to search for a torrent.
Normally, if it were a smaller download, I could be watching the first episode already and I would be able to watch the next episode sooner..
See, if you type in the right stuff, you can usually find every episode especially if it were uploaded by the same person

you know you could just pick which episodes you want and don't want to download, as well as set priorities to which episode gets more bandwidth...

ya with utorrent. I'm pretty sure you can watch torrents while you're downloading too. I think I've done it with music torrents.

Yeah.. I guess..
I use Azureus.
I never saw that option on it..

Well, either way, according solely to what I have heard, that that can cause problems for other people who are downloading all the files, as they can only get the files that other people are downloading and if only one or two of those files are what most others want to download, they'll only get those files and there will be some sort of other problems..

the problem you say is also what happens from not downloading from the torrent and going for one with a single episode. so just download the files you want and not the ones that are useless to you. and it wont really CAUSE problems, it just wont help the downloaders, it wont make anything worse for them.
